Students for a Free Palestine (SFP) is a student organization at Oberlin College. We work for the decolonization of Palestinian land, the Right of Return for all Palestinians, and adherence to international law. We oppose occupation and settler colonialism, and uphold internationalism and the right of self-determination of all peoples.
Our main tactic is to follow the demands of Palestinian civil society. In 2005, 171 Palestinian organizations called for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel worldwide. We do not see any compromises short of that as worthwhile. We are not looking for another peace talk or border proposal that further breaks up historic Palestine into a disjointed land.
We believe that in working towards justice for Palestine, we must also call for an end to police brutality, mass incarceration, gentrification, and militarization alongside other groups. We see these not as separate, but as interrelated forms of oppression that transcend national boundaries.
SFP has been active for non-consecutive years since the 1980s, and is aligned with National Students for Justice in Palestine. On campus, SFP hosts speakers, leads teach-ins, and organizes for BDS.
